Back at it again

Well, what about this.  I am actually blogging, again, after a 4 year hiatus.  Seems weird.  I think everyone knows about my life.  Well anyone that follows this.  So why update with boring stuff!  Lets get on to the important stuff......QUILTING!  Yes, quilting has taken over my life.  Knitting, not so much.  But in the process of becoming a master quilter (yeah right), I have learned some things about myself.

NUMBER ONE: I am a bit OCD about some things, and not others.
NUMBER TWO: I am a bit OCD about a lot of things.
NUMBER THREE: I am a closet appliquer.  Ok, maybe not closet.  At least not any more.
NUMBER FOUR: wait, there isnt a number FOUR.  So scratch this one out.
NUMBER FIVE: maybe this should be NUMBER FOUR?  I have this thing for Frixion  pens and scissors.
NUMBER SIX: I am addicted to buying fabric.  I am a fabriholic.  Yes. I admit it.  Maybe I should start a support group?  Hum.....I am not all that addicted to using the fabric, just buying it.

This seems a good place to end my first post in 4 years.  Becca was reading behind my back and said "You used to blog?  Really?"  Yes, I did.  Maybe it is time to get back to it!

Neglecting

Well, I noticed that I have been really  neglecting this blog thing.  Time to update, I guess.  But no time now.  24 will be on in a very few minutes.  Must watch 24, even though it is a bit repetative.  I went shopping today.  For my parents.  I have NEVER spent so much time in Walmart.  I really dont like spending hours in Walmart.  I barely like Walmart!  But none the less, I was there for an 90 minutes.  No, mom was not with me, sisters dear.  It was me by myself.  The list wasnt even that long.  But, I really do not like the Harrisville Walmart.  It is one confusing store.  Well that is enough for this blog.  Unlike my dear daughter, I do not post novels on my blog.  Oh, for those who care.  Lara has her own blog now.  It is pretty humerous.  The address is larajeans.blogspot.com  Be ready to wonder where she came from.  She is not my child.  Really.  :)  No, she is, and I love her more than anything on this earth.

baking and kids?

I never thought I would have children interested in cooking/baking.  Let alone that I would let them help!  When the kids were young, I found it just easier to do it all without their help.  Why would I want 6 little feet and legs in my way!  But now that they are older, I have found it a joy!

Brian is my mashed potato maker.  If you have never had his potatoes, you havent lived!  Not sure what he does to them, but he is an expert!  He was bored yesterday, so I let him help make bread. So now I can have him make our weekly bread.  Yeah right.  :)  He also made some refried beans, from scratch.  If you have never had homemade refried beans, you havent lived.  They are so much better than the canned stuff.  I try to make a large batch and put them in the freezer for the next month or so.  Anyway, Brian made our last batch, and he did a fabulous job!  Just as good as mom makes.  Any girl that gets him will be one lucky woman.  He will come ready to cook!  :)

Becca has always loved to make cookies.  She makes a mean chocolate chip cookie.  If you want cookies, she is the one to go to.  She did help make bread yesterday too.  And enjoyed it.  Between Lara and Becca, she is the one most like me.  She loves to bake/cook, and she sews and knits!  What more can a mom ask for!

Lara will help with making dinner, if I ask her.  She makes a wonderfully light fluffy cake from scratch.  When I need a good cake, I ask her to make it!  Unfortunately she doesnt have much time lately for cooking/baking, with all of her music activities and of course friends.  She still is good to help make dinner when I need her too though.

Tonight Becca decided that she wanted something to sweet to eat.  She noticed a pie crust in the fridge, and asked if she could make a pie.  She thought about a pumpkin pie, and then I mentioned the fact that we had lemons in the fridge that needed to be used.  So Bec, Brian and I all got our skills together, and I taught them how to make a lemon meringue pie.  I really love a good lemon pie, but I really dont like to make them, because they are not easy.  But with their help, it WAS easy!  Now we are just waiting for the pie to cool before we cut into it, and pig out.  My mouth is watering as I type.

Lara

Mom: Lara, you have an appointment with the bishop at 6:40.

Lara: Ok, mom.

fast forward to 6:25

Mom: Lara, you need to go and get ready. Get your snow stuff on, so that you can be to your appointment at 6:40. (For YW tonight they are going snow shoeing at the park)

Lara: Ok, Mom

6:35

Mom (yelling up the stairs): LARA YOU NEED TO GET READY TO GO!

Lara (coming down the stairs): Ok, Mom

6:40

Mom (yelling down the stairs): Becca tell Lara it is time to go!

Becca: OK Mom

Mom (stomping down the stairs, knocking on the bathroom door): Lara, are you ready?

Lara: Yes, Mom

Why is it she has this thing about not being on time to things? It drives me insane! I have to be on time. I call it my "Monk" tendency. I would rather not go if I am going to be late! Lara on the other hand always has to go to the bathroom just before we leave. She doesnt care if she is late, she has to go to the bathroom first! She drives me insane! But I love this child. Cant help it.

So what did I do????

I went and bought some yarn and dye to dye my own yarn. Guess I dont learn my lessons, do I? Yet another project to start and finish. I dont learn. I wont learn! LOL

Wow!!!

I just noticed that I havent posted for almost a month! What a busy month it has been. Christmas was a blurr. Isnt it always? I did get a new pair of gloves knitted. I have to find them now, and maybe post a picture, dont I? I am working on some socks now, lets see if/when they get finished. I decided that this year is the year for UFO's! Maybe finish up all those quilts, and knitted items (not socks). I have a quite a few projects that I started several years ago. By several I mean 8+ years ago! Perfect UFO, right? We shall see what happens with those. I will let you all know if I actually do what I promised myself I would do. Those who know me will probably just laugh! Go ahead, and laugh. I dont care. :)

A fun day!

Today was a sub day.  I subbed in the home ec classes.  What fun!  And I do mean that.  I like this class, well not only because of the obvious reason, but because this teacher trusts me!  She lets the kids cook, and sew while I am subbing.  She wont do that with other subs.  It makes it fun.  The kids all wonder why she will let them sew and cook when I am there, and the answer I give them is that she trust me!  If I ever became a teacher, it would definately be a home ec teacher.  Big surprise there!  :)  Anyway, it was a fun day.  But I am now exhausted, and want to take a nap, but I need to go and decide what to do for dinner.
